APR LLC was founded in 1997 by Brett Augsburger and Stephen Hooks and builds performance hardware and calibration software for the Volkswagen Group — Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, SEAT and Škoda. Its first product was an ECU upgrade for the 1997 Audi A4 1.8T, and the company has since grown into an engineering operation of roughly 80,000 square feet in Opelika, Alabama, where it writes its own ECU and TCU calibrations and designs, tests and manufactures the hardware developed alongside them — intakes, exhausts, intercoolers, turbocharger systems, fueling, suspension, brakes and wheels for EA888, EA839, EA825 and 9A2 powertrains.
