Don't Stop at the Pump
A Fuel Pump Is Only One Part of the System
The most common buying mistake is treating pump output as the only number that matters. A reliable fuel system also depends on voltage at the pump, wire gauge, relays, filters, hose size, fittings, tank ventilation, pickup design, regulator capacity, and fuel-rail pressure under load.
A high-output pump fed through factory wiring that can't hold voltage will never deliver its advertised potential. A restrictive pre-filter or an undersized line is a bottleneck in a different spot. A mismatched regulator makes pressure control a fight. - Is the 340 Stealth enough for my build?
- Possibly — but horsepower alone can't confirm it. Fuel type, base pressure, boost, voltage, engine efficiency, and the rest of the fuel system all affect available capacity. Use Aeromotive's current flow data and consult your tuner or installer.
- Can I run E85?
- Only when the specific pump and every supporting component are ethanol-compatible. E85 also needs more fuel volume than gasoline, so a pump that's adequate on gas may not support the same power on E85.
- Do I need a return-style fuel system?
- It depends on the pump, regulator, ECU strategy, and vehicle. Many high-output aftermarket systems use a return-style layout for stable pressure control; other applications run properly engineered returnless or electronically controlled systems.
- In-tank or external?
